A Natural and Holistic Therapy Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient and unique medical system of diagnosis, treatment and preventative health care. It has been practiced in China for over 3,000 years, and was introduced to the United States in 1972. Chinese medicine views the human body as an integrated whole. The internal organs are functionally related to various vital substances, external tissues, senses, emotions, and environmental influences. Channels (or meridians) are the network connecting the entire system, and are communicating pathways between interior and exterior of the body. A vital energy called Qi travels along these channels. Illness or pain occurs when this energy flow is blocked or weakened. Thus, stimulating acupoints with needles, herbs or other TCM treatments can effectively regulate organ functions, free the blockage of energy flow, relieve pain and restore natural balance of the whole body. |
